AGSV Tennis Pathways

Step 1.
New Year 7 tennis players, parents and coaches, come together for an induction into AGSV Tennis at YVG. Topics include, pathways, expectations & competition format. A training session will follow, coaches to determine skill level and placement of players in school teams.

Step 2. 
Fast 4 Match Play, there will be opportunities for players who are not ready for competitive match play. These opportunities are internal matches on Saturday Morning against fellow YVG players in our Fast 4 Match Play.
After school lessons are made available through Tennis Works to provide further skill development.

 Step 3.
Year level & Open Teams Coaches will identify appropriate teams i.e A's B's or C's.
Training: Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, 2:00pm - 3:30pm
Matches: Saturday morning, 8:00am - 10:30am or 10:00am - 12:30pm

Step 4.
Next Gen Squad (year 7 - year 9) invite only by Director of Tennis, players with a positive attitude and aspiring for firsts level tennis. Monday afternoon 3:45pm - 5:00pm, additional to year level training.

Step 5.
Seconds Squad (year 7 - year 12) invite only by Director of Tennis, players with a positive attitude and aspiring for firsts level tennis. 
Training: Thursday 3:45 - 5:00pm, additional to year level training.
Matches: Saturday morning, 8:00am - 10:30am or 10:00am - 12:30pm

Step 6.
Firsts Squad (year 7 - year 12), invite only by Director of Tennis, players with a positive attitude and desire to represent YVG at the highest level. Tuesday morning 7:00am - 8:15am & Thursday afternoon 3:45pm - 5:00pm.

Step 7.
Firsts Team (year 7 - year 12), selected from the firsts squad, top 8 players listed each week to represent YVG at Firsts Level. Saturday 7:30am - 1:00pm

How they work

Learning Outcomes
Skills, Confidence & Motivation to play AGSV Matches.

AGSV Year Level Training Sessions are designed to provide our players with the skills they need to play AGSV Matches in Terms 4 & 1. Sessions consist of a warm-up, open hitting drills & point play.

Sessions are run on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 2:00pm - 3:30pm. 

Term 3 sessions are part of YVG's pre-season, providing players with a great block of time prior to the season starting to practice and build confidence.

Term 4 & 1 sessions are run throughout the season ensuring players are ready for their Saturday matches, with team orders and doubles partners allocated.

AGSV Matches are run on Saturday morning's throughout Term 4 & 1. There are 8 players who will compete each morning, with all matches other than Firsts running for 2.5hrs, 8:00am - 10:30am or 10:00am - 12:30pm where players will play both a singles and doubles match. 

Players are allocated into teams based on age and skill level. Boys will play against the 8 other schools who take part in the AGSV competition. Girls will play against the 11 other schools who take part in the AGSV/APS competition.
